Mimoň

The Mimoň division manages property mostly in the former military training areas of Ralsko and Mladá. Organizationally, the division is divided into the following forest administrations: Břehyně, Dolní Krupá, Lipník, Hamr, the Mimoň Service Administration and the division headquarters. Outside the main areas in Ralsko and Mladá, the division also manages some detached units in the Liberec region (Chlum), Litoměřice region (Travčice, Přestavlky), Ústí nad Labem region (Tisá) and Teplice region (Červený újezd).

Due to the large explosive load in the area left by Soviet troops, our organization has its own bomb-disposal group that performs pre-felling bomb disposal in the forest and also supervises construction work.

n recent years, to an increasing degree, the Ralsko division has been providing conditions for the development of recreational and tourist use of the area. One of the places visited by hundreds of tourists from spring to autumn is the VLS Information Centre in Hradčany. In Ralsko, VLS has built almost 25 km of bicycle paths, 28 km of marked hiking trails, 11 km of tracks for inline skaters, 6 km hippotrails (trails for horseback riding), as well as the unique Jeřáb (Crane) nature trail in recent years. Thanks to our investments, you can also use 10 tourist resting places, dozens of information boards and 6 tourist car parks.

With regard to gamekeeping, the Mimoň division manages seven own hunting districts. The largest of these is Ralsko, predominantly composed of forests, but also including areas of former shooting ranges, agricultural land and water areas. Red deer, fallow deer, mouflon, roe deer and wild boar are normalized in the hunting district.
In the middle of the Ralsko hunting district is the Židlov game park, which is the second largest in the country. The heart of the game park, surrounded by forests covering an area of 2,121 ha, is the former Židlov tank firing range. The game park is used to breed red deer, mouflon and European bison, the complementary game being fallow deer, roe deer and wild boar. Close to the Mácha Lake is the division’s second game park – Velký Dub. Its very rugged and, for hunting, challenging terrain is home to a high-quality population of fallow deer and mouflon.
The northernmost hunting district of the Mimoň division is Chlum, near Nové Město pod Smrkem, where roe deer and wild boar are normalized.
The last three hunting districts (Mladá, Vlkava and Stará Boleslav), with a relatively high number of wild boar, are located in the former military training area of Milovice near Benátky nad Jizerou. Roe deer and an above-average population of mouflon (in terms of trophies) are normalized here.
In all hunting districts, both individual and group hunting by hunting guests is permitted for a fee.

The vast area between Mnichovo Hradiště, Mácha Lake and Mimoň has been used by the public for many years. There are approximately 23,000 ha of forest land. The whole area of Ralsko is valuable in terms of nature conservation – a substantial part of it was declared the Kokořín region – Mácha region protected landscape area in the autumn of 2014, and it is also part of the Natura 2000 system. In addition to the Břehyně – Pecopala national nature reserve (981 ha) and the Swamp national nature monument (47 ha), there are an additional 10 nature monuments in the area of 234 ha.

Ralsko leads the way in opening former military sites to the public. VLS has built 25 km of bicycle paths, 28 km of marked hiking trails, 11 km of tracks for inline skaters, 6 km hippotrails (trails for horseback riding), as well as the unique Jeřáb (Crane) nature trail. Thanks to our investments, you can also use 10 tourist resting places, dozens of information boards and 6 tourist car parks. In its own Židlov game park, VLS implements a programme of returning the European bison to the wild, which is unique in this country. In the village of Hradčany, at the heart of Ralsko, visitors can use the services offered by the VLS Information Centre.

The Bezděz Forest Park has been operating in a part of the Ralsko territory since 2011, the main objective being promotion and development of sustainable forest management.

Bycycle paths

The area around the Mácha Lake is a popular destination for cyclists. At its own expense, VLS has established and maintains 25 km of bicycle paths, including an information system and resting places.
You can go along bicycle paths in the Břehyně – Pecopala nature reserve, full of rocks, ponds and wetlands around Hradčany. The Bezděz Forestry Park was founded on 11 May 2011, on the occasion of the declaration of the International Year of Forests. It is the third forestry park in the Czech Republic (the Křivoklát Region Forestry Park was established on 13 May 2010 and the Křtiny Masaryk Forest Forestry Park on 22 April 2011). The majority owner of the forests is the state, represented by two state enterprises, Vojenské lesy a statky ČR, s. p. and Lesy České republiky s. p.; the forests owned by the municipalities of Bělá pod Bezdězem, Bezděz, Doksy and Zákupy have considerable potential.
The forestry parks have the following motto: “Land for both nature and people.” They serve as areas of exemplary, sustainable forest and landscape management at environmental, economic and social levels. The forestry parks declared in the Czech Republic will be gradually incorporated into the international network of “model forests”, contributing to the strengthening of international cooperation and exchange of information on methods of forest management.
The Bezděz Forestry Park covers an area of nearly 18,000 ha. Half of the park consists of commercial forests. There are also protective forests, which inherently protect the delicate balance of habitats, and special-purpose forests, which primarily fulfil other socially important functions, such as nature conservation, water resource protection, maintenance of the increased recreational or soil-protection functions, etc. This diverse environment is home to many now rare and endangered species of flora and fauna.
